Privacy Policy — Jyotish Abhyas

Last updated: 6 September 2026

Jyotish Abhyas (“the app”) is a study app for memorising classical Jyotish theory, published by Velorix. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.

The short version

Everything you do in the app — the questions you answer, whether you got them right, and when the app will show them to you again — is stored only on your device. It is never uploaded, never backed up to us, and never seen by us. There is no account to create and no way for us to identify you.

Two things do involve the internet: adverts, and feedback that you choose to send.

What stays on your device

Stored in a database inside the app’s private storage, and nowhere else:

  • Which questions you have answered and what you chose.
  • Your scores, streaks and mastery of each topic.
  • The scheduling data that decides when each question comes back.
  • Your settings.

We have no copy of any of this and no way to retrieve it. Uninstalling the app deletes it permanently.

Adverts

The app shows adverts supplied by Google AdMob. Adverts appear on the home and reports screens and between practice sessions — never on a question itself.

To select and measure adverts, Google collects:

  • Your device’s advertising ID — a resettable identifier that is not your name and not your device’s permanent serial number.
  • Your approximate location, derived from your IP address. The app never requests GPS or precise-location permission.
  • Basic advert interaction and diagnostic data, such as whether an advert loaded or was tapped.

This data is collected by Google, not by us. We never see it and cannot link it to anything you did in the app. Google’s use of it is governed by How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in Settings → Privacy → Ads on your Android device. The app keeps working normally if you do.

Feedback you choose to send

The app can report a problem with a question, or send general feedback. This only ever happens when you tap Send. Nothing is sent in the background, at start-up, or on a schedule. If you never tap Send, the app transmits nothing apart from adverts.

When you do tap Send, the report contains:

  • What you typed.
  • Your email address, only if you chose to type one, and only so we can reply. It is not added to any mailing list.
  • If you are reporting a question: that question exactly as it was shown to you — its text, its options, the recorded answer, the option you picked on that screen, the explanation and the source references. This is needed because the question may be regenerated differently in a later version.
  • The app version, the platform (Android or iOS), the language you are using, and when the report was written.

It deliberately does not include your practice history, your scores, your progress, a device identifier, or your advertising ID.

Reports are delivered to a private Google Sheet that only we can read, and are used solely to correct errors in the study material and to improve the app. They are not sold, shared or used for advertising.

If you have no connection when you tap Send, the report waits on your device and is sent the next time you send one.

Children

The app is intended for adults studying classical texts. It is not directed at children and is not part of Google Play’s Designed for Families programme.

Your rights

Because we hold no account and no profile, there is normally nothing of yours for us to look up, correct or delete. The exception is a feedback report you chose to send. If you would like a report you sent removed, email [email protected] with roughly when you sent it and what it said, and we will delete it.

Users in India have rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and users in the EU/UK under the GDPR. The address above is how to exercise them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
